Tunnels

ACO has the experience for over 30 years that are crucial when it comes to implementing solutions for the specific requirements of today's tunnel facilities. The deep professional knowledge is a guarantee of high quality and functionality of our product.

Our quality products allow owners, planners and tunnel operators alike to enhance convenience and safety in a whole host of areas, while minimizing the construction and maintenance costs.

As a global market leader in drainage technology, ACO has rich experience together with appetite for innovation, that’s why solutions can be optimized for the special demands of tunnel projects.

In China, ACO has participated successfully in the mega project – the construction of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Tunnel, proving safe and cost-efficient product.

Assurance of safety

Highways and Motorways provide the most challenging environments for drainage systems. A variety of vehicle types, from cars to semi-trailers, travelling at high speeds, 24 hour a day, can impose severe stress on road surfaces. The looseness, collapse or damages of gratings can affect driving experience, or even threaten the safety of vehicles. Besides, due to high traffic flow, the inconvenience caused by road closure for drainage system maintenance should be minimized. As a result, it is particularly important to choose safe and durable products. The monolithic design is more suitable for road transverse drainage.

The surface water closure capacity of transverse drainage should be considered carefully. The reasonable porosity and pattern design will not only improve the shutoff efficiency, but also reduce the space demand of channel bodies on the road. Another factor to be considered is the channel profile, since a well-designed channel profile can significantly improve the drainage capacity and enhance the self-cleansing effect.

Assurance of emergent discharge

When using polymer concrete in tunnels, it is absolutely vital for the material to be classified as "non-flammable".

When it comes to tunnel construction, components are required to meet the highest safety requirements in accordance with the European tunnel directive 2004/54/EC and the German guidelines and regulations RABT and ZTV-ING. ACO's special polymer concrete compound conforms to these requirements. In the event of an accident, particularly where flammable liquids are concerned, leaking hazardous materials are directed along the shortest path from the road surface through the tunnel drainage into the ground and thus separated from the oxygen supply. ACO's special polymer concrete compound is the first polymer concrete that meets the A2-s1, d0 "non-flammable" fire class in accordance with DIN EN 13501-1. The exposure classes required for drainage systems in tunnels should also conform to DIN EN 206-1 and DIN 1045-2.

Stormwater collection

ACO Monoblock guarantees the highest level of stability, particularly in the areas of transverse and longitudinal drainage on motorways and highways. Its unique monolithic designs provide extremely resistance to loading, and protection against vandalism.

Compatible with asphalt pavement, with load class up to E600.

Fields of application: areas with maximum load class requirement of F900.

Stormwater cleaning

Collected surface water from traffic areas, car parks and uncoated metal roofs or façades must be treated, to prevent sediments, tyre wear particles and heavy metals from getting into the sewers or nature. In addition to traditional light mineral oil separators, ACO offers heavy metal separator system and sedimentation system as well.

  • Efficient treatment of wastewater to prevent contaminants from entering sewers
  • Optimum solutions available varying in structure design, size, material and applications
